There’s Nothing Cool About These AC Problems
Here are some common reasons why your car’s AC might be blowing warm instead of cold.
If your AC unit still blows cold but the actual airflow is not as strong as it used to be, check out our article on weak AC airflow:
Why Does My Car AC Have Weak Airflow
Leaking or Low Refrigerant
The top culprit for a malfunctioning car AC is usually low or leaking refrigerant. If your system is low on refrigerant, a quick recharge can have you feeling frosty in no time - as long as the low refrigerant is not being caused by an underlying problem, like a leak. If there’s a refrigerant leak, it’s often around hose connections and will need to be repaired or sealed.
Faulty Compressor
Think of the compressor as the heart of your A/C system. The compressor is what keeps the refrigerant pumping through the system. Without the compressor, the refrigerant stops flowing. So even though air may keep circulating through the system, that air never gets cold before it’s sent through the vents and into the cabin.
Blocked or Broken Condenser
After the compressor pumps out the refrigerant, the AC condenser re-cools it using the airflow coming through the front of your car. If the condenser has a blockage, it won’t be able to do its job of cooling the refrigerant. As a result, vents will deliver air to the cabin but it won’t be the cold blast you were looking for. Sometimes the actual condenser component may need replacing – a repair that’s a bit more involved than a blockage. You can rely on AutoPro’s experienced and knowledgeable technicians to replace the condenser using high quality NAPA parts. We also offer an exceptional warranty with 3 years/36,000 miles of coverage on both parts and labor.
Faulty Fan or Electrical Problems
Cooling fans are yet another crucial component of the A/C system, and could be the reason for warm airflow. Sometimes the fan component itself is the culprit if it’s cracked or has incurred other damage. Other times it’s an electrical problem that disables the fans power, and inadvertently disrupts the cooling process.
